As
a professional player and teacher, I bring a good deal of real world
experience to the lessons I give. I love teaching, and pride myself on not
giving the same lesson to every student. I take into account what you want
to learn, and will find a way to get you there. I teach private lessons,
assemble and coach jazz ensembles through "Jazz Band Masterclass," and run
"Maryland Summer Jazz," a summer jazz workshop.
More than 80% of my students are adults coming back to music, some after two
years, some after twenty. I also have students as young as ten, and more
than a few professionals looking to spruce up their gigging knowledge. I
feel that a good sense of humor and a keen memory of my early, sometimes
misguided attempts (!) at the saxophone and improvising set me apart from
many other teachers.
I’ve taught professionally since 1984 in both public and private schools, at
summer music camps, on colleges and university faculties, as well as in my
own private studio. Currently, I am an adjunct Professor of Jazz Saxophone
at Towson State University. I also try to keep learning myself - I usually
spend about ten days a year studying pedagogy under the auspices of the
Kennedy Center, The Dana Foundation, and the Washington Performing Arts
Society.

L
Looking back over the
years, many of my past students have gone on to successful music careers and
well-respected music schools, including Indiana University, University of
Miami, University of North Texas, Berklee College, The New School, Peabody
Conservatory, Oberlin, The Army Ambassadors, “The Presidents Own” Marine
Band, the University of Maryland, and more.
I have studio times available both during the day and early evening hours,
and can be quite flexible with your schedule. Lessons are $65 per hour.
Contact me and
let’s talk and discuss your goals and needs.

What Students Say
|
As a musician for over 30
years, and a working pianist for 10, I've had many experiences with
teachers from classical to jazz. Mr. Antoniuk is simply put, awesome.
His ability to communicate his message of improvisation is inspiring.”
-Rodney Butler,

Jeff is a fantastic
teacher! He's taken me from the point where I could barely play a
scale to where I'm playing in a band and can stand up and take my turn
as a soloist. I'm playing better than I ever thought I could and
enjoying every minute of it.”
-Glenn Spiegel,
Senior Analyst, US Government Accountability Office

"There are few great
players--and fewer great teachers. Imagine the odds of finding both in
one person! Jeff is that unique combination of both. In this respect
he compares to Cannonball Adderley and Branford Marsalis. He inspires
with his awesome playing and has a unique gift of guiding you to new
levels you never thought possible..."
